Steam Deck 2 Release Timeline Potentially Identified

A leaker has suggested that Valve may be planning the release of the Steam Deck 2 in 2028, as competition in the portable gaming market intensifies.

Valve may be considering a 2028 launch for the Steam Deck 2, as revealed by an insider. While concrete details about the sequel remain scarce, the rise of competition in portable gaming devices has added to the anticipation surrounding its release.

Despite the increase in options available, the new Steam Deck might not be seen in stores for some time. According to reports, the initial Steam Deck was not the first of its kind but managed to popularize the handheld PC concept, inspiring numerous similar devices from various manufacturers.

Leaker Suggests Steam Deck 2 Could Be Launched in 2028

Gaming hardware leaker KeplerL2 noted in a recent NeoGAF thread that a 2028 release date is possible for the new system, aimed to overshadow competitors like the ROG Xbox Ally. This timeline would follow six years after the original Steam Deck release and five years post the OLED version. Valve has previously mentioned that it intends to deliver a “generational leap” in performance with the next iteration without compromising battery life, making the suggested 2028 date seem plausible.

Additionally, another leaker, Moore’s Law Is Dead, has hinted at the possibility of Sony releasing a competing handheld, possibly the PS6, around the end of 2027 to early 2028. This could pose a significant challenge for Valve, which has yet to confirm specific details about the launch of the Steam Deck 2, leaving many questions about the future of handheld gaming in the air.

Until there is further verification from Valve, fans will have to be patient regarding any official announcements.
