Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida has recently addressed the ongoing controversy regarding modding after the takedown of the Mare Syncronos mod, which aimed to share modified visual plugin loadouts among players. He asserted that as long as mods are for personal use and do not disrupt the gameplay experience, he would not pursue players for using them.
Yoshida’s take on the situation is that while most third-party tools contravene the game’s terms of service, he understands the positive aspects some mods can bring. He set clear guidelines for acceptable modding to prevent potential backlash and maintain the integrity of the game.
