Nintendo Switch 2 Surpasses 2 Million Sales in the U.S.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has achieved remarkable sales figures, surpassing 2 million units sold in the U.S. and setting new records for Nintendo.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has sold over 2 million units in the U.S. alone. This figure marks a significant achievement for the highly anticipated console, which has achieved impressive sales after initial pre-order challenges and issues with game key cards. The sales figures continue to grow, with the Nintendo Switch 2 reaching this milestone quicker than its predecessor.
Despite some gamers voicing concerns about its pricing and how it manages physical game cartridges, Nintendo’s latest console has performed exceptionally well. In July 2025, the Switch 2 surpassed 6 million copies sold globally, needing less than two months to reach this notable sales milestone. Notable titles such as Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World are among the hit games, with no signs of slowing down for Nintendo.
Nintendo Switch 2 Achievements
Games industry analyst Mat Piscatella recently shared on Bluesky that the Switch 2 has crossed 2 million units sold in the U.S., highlighting that these sales have contributed to a 21% monthly increase in hardware spending. Moreover, he noted that the console is currently 75% ahead of the original Switch at the same stage of its lifecycle. Piscatella had predicted that the Switch 2 would not outsell the original, but that was before the official reveal and subsequent rapid sell-out of pre-orders.
July 2025 U.S. Video Game Market Highlights: Gains in hardware, including the Switch 2 surpassing 2 million units, were driven by strong performance from Garena’s Free Fire.
— Mat Piscatella, August 27, 2025
The Switch 2’s recent milestone is not just impressive compared to its predecessor. Piscatella also pointed out that in July, hardware sales for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S dropped by 47% and 69% respectively, illustrating that Nintendo has compensated for significant declines among its competitors, boosting the overall gaming market.
Furthermore, the Switch 2 has already outpaced the lifetime sales of the Xbox Series X and S in Japan, and at least for now, it leads the gaming hardware market in the U.S.
While the Switch 2 stands as the top-selling video game hardware in the U.S. for July and throughout 2025, the system’s enormous success has brought frustration for some developers and gamers. There are indications that third-party studios are struggling to access Switch 2 development kits, which may lead to a reduced number of indie titles available on the platform. As the system is still relatively new, this situation could evolve, but uncertainty prevails. Nonetheless, the Switch 2’s launch has undeniably been positive for Nintendo.
