Seven Games Delayed by the Upcoming Release of Hollow Knight: Silksong

The announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong's release has already caused several games to reschedule their launch dates.

Seven games have already been delayed due to the reveal of Hollow Knight: Silksong’s release date. It’s fair to say that Hollow Knight: Silksong was one of the most eagerly awaited games in recent years, so it makes sense that these developers and publishers would try to get out of its way.

After around seven years in development and countless jokes about wearing clown makeup in its community, Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally be released on September 4. The eagerly-awaited announcement happened out of the blue, so some indie developers already had plans to release games near that date. However, some studios have quickly changed their minds.

Games Delayed Due to Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Release

Seven titles have already been delayed in the wake of Silksong’s release on September 4: Aeterna Lucis, Baby Steps, CloverPit, Demonschool, Faeland, Little Witch in the Woods, and Megabonk. The wave of Silksong-related delays started with Faeland. Soon after Team Cherry’s announcement, developer Talegames revealed that the RPG-inspired retro game would postpone its launch planned for September 9 to an undefined date to escape Silksong. The side-scrolling action adventure Aeterna Lucis was in an even more precarious position, being in essentially the same genre as Silksong, so the devs delayed it to 2026, citing Team Cherry’s title and the lack of a Switch 2 development kit.

  • Megabonk

Developed by Panik Arcade and published by Future Friends Games, the roguelite slot machine game CloverPit was also delayed because of Silksong, and it will now launch on September 26. The action-packed roguelike survival game Megabonk also opted to launch on September 18 to dodge the same problem. Similarly, the Persona-inspired tactics RPG Demonschool will be postponed to November 19 to avoid being overshadowed by Hollow Knight: Silksong’s popularity in the gaming market.

More recently, Baby Steps was also delayed, and it will now launch on September 23 because the game’s protagonist, Nate, is “allergic to hornets,” the developer joked. Witch in the Woods, which was supposed to come out on the same day as Silksong, was also postponed to September 15 to avoid it. While it’s sad to see these games being delayed, it’s likely in their best interest to get as far away as possible from Hollow Knight: Silksong. The game’s official release date announcement was so popular that it made the original Hollow Knight skyrocket in the charts, peaking at 45,595 simultaneous players on Steam earlier this week. So, it seems that it’s better to be safe than sorry in the difficult gaming market of 2025.
