A New Card Battler Emerges, Blending Themes of Bargaining and Horror
Discover The Killing Stone, a unique blend of card battling and horror that challenges players to negotiate with the devil.
The Killing Stone stands out as an intriguing game from the developers of The Blackout Club. This virtual card battler incorporates a sinister folk horror narrative, where players confront demons and the devil in intense card duels.
Unlike standard card games, it introduces a boardgame aspect, featuring animated figurines reminiscent of classic chess gameplay. Players navigate a narrow board with the titular Killing Stone positioned at the center.
While the game’s exact rules remain somewhat unclear from its trailers, its design invites exploration within a 17th-century mansion owned by the deceased Mariken Svangård, whose family is entangled in diabolical dealings.
In between battles, players will have opportunities to interact with the Svangård family and their animal companions, wagering risks with the devil’s minions in a race against time to save their souls. The Killing Stone promises high replayability, unlocking fresh abilities with each game session, allowing players to influence the storyline’s conclusion.
Echoes of Inscryption resonate throughout, particularly its early segments, and it’s being crafted by Question, the studio headed by Jordan Thomas, known for the immersive elements of Bioshock 2. Their previous titles, like The Blackout Club and The Magic Circle, have explored innovative gameplay concepts, leaving players curious about how these experiences will shape the narrative design of their latest project.
