Enshrouded's Upcoming Update Promises a Major Water Biome Overhaul
Keen Games plans to introduce a substantial aquatic environment in Enshrouded, addressing player demands for water features.
Since the early access launch of Enshrouded in January last year, players have been clamoring for more water features. The extensive and beautiful world of Embervale offers a lot, but players longed for rivers and lakes. During Gamescom, Keen Games announced a significant update that will introduce a new biome focused entirely on water.
While initial expectations leaned towards just a few rivers and ponds, the new update is more extensive than anticipated. Here’s a teaser for the Wake of the Water update, showcasing its features.

Westphal presented a demo featuring a tropical biome where characters can enjoy a vacation resort setup, complete with decorative lounge chairs and a sparkling pool. The gameplay highlights a dynamic water system where players can create irrigation channels to supply water to plants. This feature increases the interaction with the environment and suggests the kinds of creative constructions players might develop.
Physically simulated water poses additional challenges; at one point in the demo, a trap submerged a character in a flooded room, intensifying the urgency to escape before running out of breath.
“This new biome is strictly high-level stuff… It’s the current endgame, you could say,” Westphal mentioned regarding accessibility for new players. The water system will also extend to other areas, possibly creating smaller oases even in desert regions.
Expect new enemies and aquatic life, including fishing mechanics that enhance gameplay variety. Ultimately, this update promises players a richer and more immersive experience when it rolls out this October, coincidentally while the game is currently on sale for 20% off on Steam.
