As the launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong approaches on September 4, numerous indie developers are adjusting their release schedules to sidestep the intense spotlight surrounding the game.
Panik Arcade is among the first to announce a delay, moving the release of their slot machine game CloverPit from September 3 to September 26 to avoid competition with Silksong. Lincoln Carpenter from PC Gamer expressed empathy for teams facing similar struggles, noting the challenge of competing against such a significant title.
Another game, Stomp and the Sword of Miracles, has also shifted its Kickstarter launch to the same later date as CloverPit. Developer Frogteam Games remarked, “Trying to market an indie game is already really hard… I feel like a little krill trying not to get eaten by a blue whale.”
Frogteam reminded everyone that despite the marketing struggles, being in the crossfire could provide unexpected visibility. Developers shared their thoughts on the historical impact of major titles on indie releases, with many hoping to maximize the benefits of word-of-mouth promotion while navigating the competitive landscape.
