President Trump Advocates for a 10% Share in Intel
US President Trump proposes a 10% stake in Intel as the company seeks to maintain its competitive edge amidst government scrutiny.
President Trump has weighed in on the future of Intel, suggesting that the US government should receive a 10% stake in the tech giant in light of the ongoing discussions related to the CHIPS Act funding. This proposal was made in an address to the press where he echoed remarks made by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
Initially, Trump had called for the resignation of Lip Bu Tan, the CEO of Intel, over concerns regarding possible ties to China. However, following a meeting, their relationship seems to have thawed, leading to discussions about potential government stakes in the company.
When reporters inquired about the proposed 10%, Trump affirmed his stance, stating, “I think the United States should be given 10% of Intel.”
This position, however, seemed unexpected for a figure often linked with conservative ideals. Notably, Senator Bernie Sanders provided support for the concept of government interests in large corporations, arguing against taxpayer-financed corporate welfare without equitable returns.
