According to Dying Light: The Beast’s director, the game’s smaller open world, Castor Woods, features a range of diverse environments. This upcoming title from Techland, known for its parkour-centric zombie gameplay, is a standalone installment in the renowned series, which has been captivating players for over ten years.
Having initially started as a DLC for Dying Light 2, Dying Light: The Beast boasts a more concise gameplay experience than its predecessors. While players typically spent around 30-40 hours completing the earlier titles, this new addition promises to trim that down to an estimated 20-hour main storyline. The story will reintroduce Kyle Crane, the protagonist from the original game, who is now infused with the DNA of zombies, granting him unique abilities for combat.
Dying Light: The Beast is Full of Unique Biomes and Locations
Although the world of Dying Light: The Beast is notably smaller than its forerunners, it remains densely populated with captivating locations. In a recent interview with Insider Gaming, Nathan Lemaire elaborated on the game’s world design, citing various biomes throughout Castor Woods, including the “Old Town,” a village, and industrial areas, complemented by swamps and farmland. “With Castor Woods, we have created probably the most diverse world we have ever created for this franchise,” he noted, highlighting hidden secrets and collectibles waiting to be found.
The shift from sprawling urban settings to a more rural landscape is a refreshing prospect for the franchise. Given that parkour is integral to the series’ identity, it will be intriguing to see how Techland adapts these mechanics to the different environments, such as farms and swamp areas, which may not accommodate the verticality seen in previous titles.
Dying Light: The Beast is slated for release on September 19 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, amidst a busy gaming season, with other major titles like Borderlands 4 and Silent Hill f set to launch around the same time. This new setting in Castor Woods could be pivotal in helping it distinguish itself in a sea of new releases.
