Performance Issues with Metal Gear Solid Delta on PS5 Pro

Early tests reveal that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater performs worse on PS5 Pro compared to the standard PS5.

Early insights into Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater suggest it may not perform as well on the PlayStation 5 Pro as anticipated. Interestingly, tests reveal that the regular PS5 actually outperforms the PS5 Pro in several aspects, including the game’s frame rate.

Following the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake, fans eagerly await Konami’s next remake. Unlike Silent Hill 2, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater retains the original voice cast, and both titles utilize the Unreal Engine 5.

Performance Shortcomings of Metal Gear Solid Delta on PS5 Pro

According to early performance assessments by Digital Foundry, gamers with PS5 Pro consoles may find themselves disappointed. When the game was tested on both consoles, frame rate drops were noticeable on each; for example, the standard PS5 averaged around 48-60 FPS in Performance Mode, but this could dip to as low as 30-50 FPS in certain areas. Conversely, the PS5 Pro’s frame rate was, on average, lower than the standard PS5, showing a range of 30-60 FPS in demanding scenes.

Moreover, visual quality on the PS5 Pro did not hold up to expectations. In a comparison of a jungle scene, the PS5 in Performance Mode displayed at 864p while the PS5 Pro struggled with a resolution of 756p. Although the PS5 Pro employs PSSR for visual upscaling, issues with clarity and denoising have been reported, leading to more pronounced flickering.

Despite these drawbacks, the PS5 Pro does excel in ameliorating flickering artifacts during motion, and has fewer occlusion issues. Nevertheless, many players on the PS5 Pro might be disheartened by the game’s state.

While it’s still possible that a day one patch could address these shortcomings before launch, players eager for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s release, set for August 28, 2025, might benefit from revisiting their old PS5s.
