In a world where RTS games often seem overshadowed by competitive multiplayer focus, King Art Games is steadfast in its commitment to delivering deep singleplayer experiences in the upcoming Dawn of War 4.
Creative Director Jan Theysen emphasized this vision, stating, “We are known for making narrative-driven games, and the campaign for Iron Harvest was very well received. This was super clear: campaigns will be one of the big pillars for the game.”
Surveys from players of Iron Harvest indicated that singleplayer content and a robust campaign were the most crucial aspects. This insight has shaped King Art’s development strategy, aiming to offer diverse campaigns for all four factions. The team is committed to creating dynamic narratives with optional missions where player choices significantly impact the outcomes.
The singleplayer campaigns are intended to resonate with the rich history of storytelling found in RTS titles. While acknowledging the importance of multiplayer, Senior Game Designer Elliott Verbiest pointed out, “what we remember… when we look most fondly back on when playing RTS games when we were all younger, the singleplayer campaigns were one of the things that stuck the longest with us.”
In summary, Dawn of War 4 is set to feature four distinct campaigns with over 70 missions, promising a return to expansive storytelling in the RTS genre.
