Overwatch 2 is set to completely discontinue the Hero Mastery game mode soon, with all courses being removed starting in Season 19. Fans only have a few months to finish these courses before they are permanently taken out of the game.
Hero Mastery is a single-player mode that was introduced in September 2023. Over the preceding years, more courses were added for various heroes.
Overwatch 2 to Remove Hero Mastery in Season 19
Sadly, the Hero Mastery mode won’t be around for long. In a recent forum announcement, Kaedi, the Community Manager for Overwatch 2, stated that the mode is being phased out. Starting with Season 19, which is expected to launch in late October or early November, all current courses will be removed, leaving players with just about two months to enjoy the mode.
During Season 18, players can still earn Lifetime challenge rewards before they disappear. Furthermore, players who complete certain mastery levels prior to the mode’s removal will receive rewards, including an Epic Loot Box and an exclusive Player Title.
Although players have enjoyed Hero Mastery, it has not garnered as much popularity compared to more successful game modes like Competitive. By removing it, Blizzard aims to focus on enhancing more favored modes and reducing visual clutter.
Looking Ahead
Fortunately, Overwatch 2 fans will find plenty to keep them engaged in Season 18 and beyond. Blizzard has teased an upcoming update that includes a revamped progression system, a new game mode, and a new support character named Wuyang, alongside a crossover event with Persona 5.
