Rumored Valve 'Fremont' Console Stirs Interest as Geekbench Listing Surfaces
The upcoming Valve console, speculated to run SteamOS, was recently spotted on Geekbench showcasing a custom AMD CPU and Radeon RX 7600 GPU.
Valve’s rumored console, codenamed Fremont, recently made waves by appearing on Geekbench while purportedly running Windows 11 Pro. This device is expected to act as a living room PC equipped with a custom AMD CPU alongside a Radeon RX 7600 graphics card.
The Fremont project was first noted late last year during an HDMI CEC test, but this Geekbench listing marks its debut showcasing the specifications. According to reports, the CPU within Fremont is designated as an AMD Custom chip featuring six cores and 12 threads operating at a speed of 3.2 GHz, bearing the codename Hawk Point 2.
The prospect of a gaming console from Valve has ignited considerable interest; however, it remains unclear whether the console will ultimately run SteamOS or Windows, given its current reported setup. Despite the uncertainty, the emergence of Fremont aligns with Valve’s history of not seeking the latest technology, supporting the notion that it could be a more affordable option for gamers seeking a secondary device alongside their primary gaming setups.
Future developments regarding this intriguing console will surely be closely monitored.
