Resident Evil Requiem Introduces a Shy Protagonist in a Horror Setting
The latest installment of Resident Evil features a new character who is fearful and introverted, facing a terrifying challenge in a hotel.
In the Resident Evil Requiem, the latest title from the acclaimed series, we meet Grace Ashcroft, a character significantly different from traditional heroes. Grace is described as an introverted and fearful character. She faces terrifying situations in a dimly lit murder hotel, constantly pursued by a gigantic monster, using only a Zippo lighter to illuminate her path.
“I think players will be scared along with her,” said Kumazawa. (Translation: I believe players will experience the same fear as her.)
In a striking departure from the franchise’s typical action-packed template, Grace’s character invites players to engage with the horror in a more personal and vulnerable way. Her backstory is equally chilling; her mother was murdered in the very hotel she returns to, adding depth to her introverted nature.
As part of the game’s gameplay, players will experience various perspectives, including both first-person and third-person views, enhancing the horror elements while maintaining the character’s relatability. Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026.
