Iron Galaxy Cuts 66 Jobs for Long-Term Survival
Iron Galaxy announces layoffs as part of a strategic effort to ensure the studio's future amid ongoing industry challenges.
Iron Galaxy, the developer known for titles like Killer Instinct and Rumbleverse, has announced the layoff of 66 employees in what they term a ’last resort’ measure aimed at securing the studio’s stability.
The studio indicated that despite their best efforts over the years to keep the team together, they have ‘run out of room to maneuver’ in the face of industry shifts.
“For several years now, we have watched our industry undergo significant change. Many talented individuals in game development have faced job losses, and some inspiring companies have closed. Our own game, Rumbleverse, experienced an early shutdown.”
Today, Iron Galaxy has confirmed the layoffs as a necessary step for their ongoing survivability. They expressed hope that this decision will help provide a sustainable future for the remaining staff.
Having been founded in 2008, Iron Galaxy’s notable projects include several seasons of Killer Instinct, Extinction, and Rumbleverse. The latter was taken offline just six months after its launch in February 2023, emblematic of the broader struggles faced by the gaming industry in recent years.
Adam Boyes, who has previously emphasized the importance of transparency within the studio, highlighted the impact of these layoffs amid a harsh economic climate that has seen numerous major firms cut jobs. Despite these changes, Boyes assured that Iron Galaxy remains committed to exploring new opportunities within the industry.
