Valve Enhances Steam's Performance Monitor for Better GPU Tracking

The latest beta for Steam brings improved accuracy to its GPU utilization monitoring, surpassing Task Manager's reporting.

Valve has made a significant update to its Steam client beta, introducing improvements to the accuracy of GPU utilization reporting. This new update claims to provide more precise measurements than those reported by the Task Manager, a tool known for underreporting in certain scenarios. The changes aim to rectify inconsistencies in how GPU utilization is monitored during gameplay.

The update states:

“This should now be more accurate when processes launched after the game process use GPU outside of the primary game proc, and should have less sampling rate error in general.”

Due to these updates, many users are now likely to see utilization numbers that align more closely with third-party monitoring tools, such as MSI Afterburner, making the gaming experience smoother and more insightful.

The ongoing enhancements to the Steam client’s in-game overlay offer players a clearer glimpse of their system’s performance during gaming sessions, allowing them to optimize settings and understand resource usage better. This feature aligns Steam more closely with specialized monitoring applications, enhancing the overall user experience for gamers who prioritize performance metrics.
