HyperX Unveils Upgraded Wireless Gaming Headset with New Base Station

The latest from HyperX features an RGB-lit base station and enhanced audio controls, though with slightly reduced battery life.

Until very recently, the HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless was our top pick for wireless gaming headsets, until the brilliant Razer BlackShark V3 took its place. However, HyperX has made a swift comeback with their newly launched HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless 2, featuring a stylish RGB-lit base station along with media controls.

HyperX describes this as an “audio control hub” equipped with customizable RGB lighting and a variety of programmable buttons for your macro requirements. It also allows seamless switching between devices and includes an impressive volume dial at the center. As an audio specialist, it’s likely used for volume adjustments.

With significant upgrades, the audio drivers have been enhanced from 50mm units to 53mm composite models that aim to minimize distortion effectively. But whether they can compete with the design in the BlackShark remains uncertain.

Notably, the Cloud Alpha 1 Wireless boasted an extraordinary 300-hour battery life, while its successor drops to 250 hours. Despite HyperX claiming it still exceeds most industry headsets, it’s nevertheless a reduction. Soon after, the HyperX Cloud Flight 2 is expected, likely a budget version with basic specs.

The revised features also support simultaneous 2.4GHz and Bluetooth connections, allowing you to keep your phone linked without missing notifications. Microfibre earcups and a 10mm microphone further enhance its impressive upgrade suite, with battery life being a rare exception.

The new models, however, may edge closer to the original Cloud Alpha Wireless price of $200, potentially reaching around $250 due to the new additions. The gamble lies in sacrificing battery life for flashy features, better audio, and likely a higher cost.
