In our current technological moment, where major corporations ask us to trust machines with our lives, it’s crucial to verify results when using automated systems. This lesson became clear for the developers behind The Crazy Hyper-Dungeon Chronicles, which was accidentally listed on Japanese Steam with the unfortunate title ‘Shitty Dungeon’ due to a machine translation error.
The game is a pixel art dungeon crawler that embraces a wacky fantasy theme, boasting humorous elements like a character named Hero Achille Williams Angelos McDurden. However, in Japan, it appeared as クソダンジョン (Kuso Danjon), which translates literally to ‘shit dungeon’.
Developer Giorgio Macratore responded to the humorous backlash, stating:
“It wasn’t intentional, but in Japanese, it ended up as ‘Kuso Dungeon’ 💩. I’m working on fixing it… but honestly, I’m still laughing.”
In light of the mix-up, the developer is correcting the title for its Japanese audience, acknowledging the translation deficiencies that stemmed from AI usage.
