Steam Faces Growing Payment Issues as PayPal is Unavailable Globally
Steam's payment challenges intensify, particularly with PayPal being temporarily unusable in various regions, while Valve looks for solutions amidst pressures from credit card companies.
Steam’s payment complications have intensified recently, particularly due to the absence of PayPal functionality in many areas worldwide. Valve has confirmed that, since early July 2025, PayPal has been unusable for transactions in certain currencies, a problem first highlighted on the Steam subreddit about a month ago. Users in countries such as Switzerland and Poland have experienced messaging indicating that transactions with PayPal are temporarily unavailable.
Valve mentions that they wish to reintegrate PayPal, but an exact timeline remains uncertain. In the meantime, various payment methods are currently available on Steam. The ongoing situation, where credit card firms have prompted changes in content management, adds further complexity to the payment landscape for Steam users.
For those unable to use available payment methods, Valve suggests utilizing Steam Wallet codes to fund their accounts.
