Steam Discontinues PayPal Support in Various Regions
Steam users in multiple regions will no longer be able to use PayPal due to currency limitations imposed by the payment processor.
PayPal is no longer a viable payment option on Steam for many users because it will no longer support currencies other than EUR, CAD, GBP, JPY, AUD, and USD. PayPal was recently associated with Steam’s censorship controversy and is now facing criticism again.
Amid ongoing issues related to censorship, Steam has announced that PayPal will not process payments in several currencies, affecting millions of players. Although European countries with non-Euro currencies can still purchase in Euro, Steam encourages affected users to explore other payment methods or try Steam Wallet codes, which do not require payment processors like PayPal.
Neither company has disclosed the reason behind this change; they only mentioned that PayPal informed Valve of the payment restrictions based on currency.
Steam’s dedicated users, especially those in Brazil, will now be significantly impacted, facing limitations on payment options. The risks of backlash against Steam and its payment processors are increasing, although the full extent of user discontent remains to be seen.
