Former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra suggests that Battlefield 6 could significantly surpass Call of Duty this year. He emphasized that it isn’t necessarily about the superiority of Battlefield, but rather a reflection of the declining quality in the Call of Duty series.
Ybarra commented:
“Battlefield will boot stomp CoD this year. But the real win here is CoD won’t be lazy anymore, and we’ll all get better FPS games for it.”
His remarks come as he notes that the Call of Duty franchise has been in decline for several years, mentioning problems like cheating and an overwhelming user interface. Ybarra believes that this could compel the developers of Call of Duty to innovate once more, ultimately benefiting gamers who are seeking better first-person shooter experiences.
This prediction aligns with early feedback where Battlefield 6’s open beta is reported to be the most popular Battlefield title to date on Steam. The challenge remains whether it can convert longtime Call of Duty fans amid their established gaming habits.
