
Grand Theft Auto Franchise Nears Historic Sales Milestone
The Grand Theft Auto series is close to reaching half a billion units sold as anticipation builds for the upcoming sixth installment.
The renowned Grand Theft Auto franchise is on the verge of hitting a major sales milestone, nearing 500 million total units sold across all its titles. Fans are currently looking forward to the long-awaited sixth installment of the series, which has been moved from its original 2025 date to May 26, 2026. The new game is set in a contemporary version of Vice City and will feature protagonists reminiscent of the infamous ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ duo, named Jason and Lucia.
GTA 5 Trevor
Since the last main game, Grand Theft Auto 5, was launched in 2013, Rockstar Games has focused on GTA Online, which has generated substantial revenue. Recently, during an earnings call, video game publisher Take-Two Interactive reported that the entire GTA franchise has sold around 455 million units, with GTA 5 alone contributing 215 million of those.
GTA is 45 Million Units Away from Half a Billion
In the earnings report, it was noted that the franchise is just 45 million units shy of hitting half a billion sold. With GTA 6 set to release soon, there’s potential for sales to soar past this new benchmark. The anticipation for this new title suggests that it could be one of the most significant game launches yet.
