End of an Era: Rod Fergusson Leaves Blizzard After Leading Diablo 4's Development

Rod Fergusson, a pivotal figure in the Diablo franchise, has announced his departure from Blizzard following his contributions to Diablo 4.

Rod Fergusson, the influential director behind the Diablo series, has officially left Blizzard Entertainment. He was instrumental in launching Diablo 4 and overseeing the development of both Diablo 2: Resurrected and Diablo Immortal.

Although Diablo 4 received generally favorable reviews upon its 2023 release, its early endgame phase and initial post-launch support drew some criticism. However, recent updates, including the Vessel of Hatred expansion, have successfully retained the interest of its loyal fanbase.

“Our Diablo teams are set up for success and there’s an exciting slate of releases ahead.” — Rod Fergusson
As he embarks on a new chapter, he expressed pride in his accomplishments at Blizzard and enthusiasm for the future of Diablo.

Looking forward, fans can anticipate ongoing updates for Diablo Immortal on mobile and Diablo 4 on various platforms. However, any new expansions for Diablo 4 are not expected until 2026, and discussions around potential new classes and regions are still speculative.
