The fan project Skyblivion, which aims to remake The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion within Skyrim’s engine, has released a new development update. The Oblivion remake project is still working towards a 2025 release, bringing a refreshed and reimagined version of the world to life.
Skyblivion Shares Progress Report
Skyblivion is now in its final stretch of development, and has released a new developer diary to showcase what’s been in the works. As the video notes, Skyblivion has grown substantially to the point that it is not only recreating assets with modern graphics, but it is also trying to restore elements of Oblivion that were scrapped before its original release in 2006. One major example is that Sutch has been expanded from the fort it originally appeared as in the standard game. Sutch was originally intended to be a city, and the Skyblivion team has worked to restore it, albeit to a destroyed city, adding the Chapel of Kynareth, which gives it a Patron Divine of its own.
The established city of Anvil is also undergoing a significant overhaul. Taking inspiration from original concept artwork, the Skyblivion team has redesigned the Anvil harbor and expanded the docks outside the town. Lelles’ Quality Merchandise has been relocated to Anvil, and a new Alchemy store, Tide and Tonic, has been introduced. The update includes a brief walkthrough of the expected changes in the revamped Anvil.
Skyblivion is also enhancing the Deadlands, dividing them into two biomes. The Burn contains the fiery areas, while The Sever has been introduced, based on its depiction in The Elder Scrolls Online. Unlike The Burn, The Sever is under constant attack from lightning strikes. The selection of random worlds has also increased from Oblivion’s original seven to a total of eleven, all aimed at reducing repetition and monotony.
While Skyblivion is not ready for release yet, the team asserts they are nearing completion, with plans to showcase The Imperial City next. With 2025 fast approaching, fans can expect the game to soon become a reality.
