PS4 Exclusive Game to End Service on August 31

The PS4 exclusive free-to-play shooter, Blacklight: Retribution, will shut down permanently soon, marking the end of another gaming era.

The PlayStation 4 console exclusive game Blacklight: Retribution will stop operation on August 31. This title originally launched alongside the PS4 in 2013, yet it never emerged on Xbox or Nintendo platforms, making it distinctly allied with Sony’s console. Following its loss in popularity, the PC version ceased operations in 2019, with the PS4 edition being delisted in 2024 but still playable for previous downloaders.

When Will Blacklight: Retribution Shut Down?

Blacklight: Retribution is officially concluding its operations on PS4 on August 31. After being delisted, this shutdown was expected, effectively rendering the game unavailable.

Although it struggled for relevance in recent years, the historical importance of Blacklight: Retribution as a launch title cannot be overlooked. Initiatives like the Stop Killing Games campaign highlight the sadness surrounding its demise, but no viable solutions have emerged to enable continued play beyond the shutdown date.
