Unique New Cozy Game for the Nintendo Switch 2 Utilizes an Unused Accessory

A fresh fire-building simulator designed for the Nintendo Switch 2 leverages an accessory that hasn't quite found its place. The game offers a novel experience nearly immediately upon its announcement.

Chillin’ by the Fire, a new cozy simulator from developer Oink Games, gives one of the Nintendo Switch 2’s least popular accessories a fresh role. After being announced on July 31, the game integrates the console’s USB camera for its social features, allowing players to gather and interact around virtual campfires.

This title stood out during the July 31 Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, showcasing a relaxing gameplay style set against a serene coastal backdrop, differing from the multitude of other action and fantasy RPG announcements. Additionally, this title is unusually quick to launch, being available the same day as its announcement.

The gameplay invites players to build campfires with thoughtful resource management while encouraging social interaction through the required USB camera. In the trailer, players can connect and converse in real-time, with in-game visuals indicating their respective levels through symbolic video displays.

Although the success of Chillin’ by the Fire remains to be seen, it aims to rescue Nintendo’s previous struggle to market an external camera accessory for the hybrid console. Recent reports suggest that only a small fraction of Switch 2 owners have purchased the camera, and users might find alternatives using third-party cameras or even their mobile phones with compatible cables.
