Marvel Rivals Introduces New Chat Moderation Feature Aimed at Reducing Toxicity

NetEase Games announces an automated chat moderation feature for Marvel Rivals to enhance the gaming experience by curbing toxic behavior.

Ahead of the Marvel Rivals Season 3.5 update, developer NetEase Games has unveiled a new automated chat moderation system named “Operation: Shield the Community”. This initiative aims to enhance player safety by reducing toxic behavior in the game’s chat environment. Despite the announcement, specifics about penalties for flagged players remain undisclosed.

This development follows the recent patch notes released on July 31, which introduced several new adjustments and skins, including Phoenix-themed options for Black Panther and Magik. Additionally, an exciting Twitch Drops campaign is set to take place before the Marvel Rivals Ignite Mid-Season Finals tournament in China from August 6 to 10. The patch will also address issues with characters like Hela and Hulk, ensuring smoother gameplay.

As the July 31 update approaches, attention shifts to the critical features of Season 3.5, commencing a week after. Game director Guangyan “Guanggang” Chen confirmed through a Dev Vision video that the automated chat moderation system is set to significantly alter in-game chat tools, tackling toxic behavior in both text and voice channels. However, the details surrounding enforcement of bans and specific punishments remain unclear.

Key Points:

  • The chat moderation initiative “Operation: Shield the Community” has been started to eliminate toxic behavior.
  • Reports flagged by the system will undergo human review to mitigate false positives.
  • Precise punishment criteria for detected infractions are yet to be clarified.

Guanggang noted that changes to moderation began on July 24, raising questions about whether these have yet been implemented. Only time will reveal the effectiveness of these new tools compared to player-reported issues. Alongside this, the August 8 update will provide players with a text chat option that automatically mutes certain offensive words.
