Call of Duty Teams Up with Iconic 90s Horror Franchise

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone are set to collaborate with a renowned slasher franchise, expanding their long list of crossovers as they approach the end of their game cycle.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone are reuniting with a classic slasher franchise for an exciting upcoming update set to release on August 7. Over the past year, Black Ops 6 has formed partnerships with various franchises such as Squid Game and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As the game nears the latter stage of its life cycle, Activision is excited to collaborate with another iconic horror title.

In recent times, Activision has faced criticism from the Call of Duty community regarding their increasing number of collaborations and cosmetic items that some players find unrealistic. While this isn’t the first instance of the series teaming up with popular media, Black Ops 6 has attracted backlash for the high frequency of crossover events since launch. Still, despite these critiques, Activision has officially announced yet another collaboration for the upcoming Season 5 update for Call of Duty.

Earlier this week, Call of Duty showcased its full Season 5 roadmap, promising a wide range of new content for Black Ops 6 and Warzone, along with the anticipated partnership with the famous horror franchise, I Know What You Did Last Summer. The Fisherman character is set to grace the in-game store as part of a new bundle during the season. Although no specific date has been provided, it is likely to be available with the mid-season update in about a month after launch. Enthusiastic players looking forward to The Fisherman can see a preview of the new operator skin in the accompanying image.

This isn’t the first collaboration between Call of Duty and notable horror franchises. In 2021, the game introduced Ghostface from Scream as a playable operator in Black Ops Cold War. Activision has also worked with titles like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, The Crow, and SAW, among others. The Fisherman will join this formidable lineup as the next horror character in Call of Duty.

Despite the excitement, these collaborations often spark controversy. The addition of characters from American Dad and Beavis & Butt-Head to the games has left some players feeling disillusioned. The influx of cartoon characters has drawn scrutiny from players who feel these additions detract from the game’s immersive experience, with some labeling the Stan Smith operator skin as “incredibly bad.”

In summary, while Activision’s ongoing partnerships with various entertainment franchises have generated both buzz and backlash, they continue to push the boundaries of familiar gaming landscapes.
