Sony Takes Legal Action Against Tencent Over Suspicious Game Similar to Horizon Zero Dawn

Sony has initiated a lawsuit against Tencent for alleged copyright infringement regarding a game that closely resembles its popular title, Horizon Zero Dawn.

Sony has expressed its discontent regarding Tencent’s upcoming game, Light of Motiram, which is alleged to bear striking similarities to its acclaimed title, Horizon Zero Dawn. The legal filing describes Tencent’s game as a ‘slavish clone’ that mirrors the aesthetic, narrative, and gameplay of Horizon, potentially leading to consumer confusion.

In the complaint, Sony is pursuing unspecified monetary damages and a court order to prevent Tencent from continuing this infringement. Interestingly, Sony had previously showcased a trailer for Light of Motiram on the PlayStation China Weibo account, suggesting that the two companies had at least some prior interaction.

The accusations put a spotlight on the broader issue of intellectual property in the gaming world, especially as similar derivative works frequently emerge in the industry.
