Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players have taken to social media, raising alarms about hacked Tera Raids potentially allowing trainers to catch Shiny Wo-Chien earlier than planned. Shiny Wo-Chien, considered unobtainable in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, can only be caught under specific conditions during the ongoing Shiny Treasures of Ruin Tera Raid event.
Known as the Ruinous Pokemon, Wo-Chien belongs to a group of Legendary characters known as the Treasures of Ruin. It is a dual-type Dark and Grass Pokemon known for its appearance reminiscent of a snail adorned with leaves. The Shiny Treasures of Ruin Tera Raid series, which features Wo-Chien as the initial offering, was announced during the Pokemon Presents event on July 22. Unlike past Tera raid events, the Shiny Treasures of Ruin cannot typically be caught until they have been collectively defeated at least one million times. Once this goal is met, they will be made available via Mystery Gift.
After the event’s announcement, concerns arose when a player, identified on the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet subreddit by the username ZealousidealClock528, reported successfully catching a Shiny Wo-Chien after defeating it in a Tera Raid battle. This incident was flagged as unwanted due to the current constraints of the event, which dictates that Shiny Wo-Chien should not be accessible at this stage. The player reportedly entered the Raid through the Tera Raid finder interface, enabling them to participate in other players’ raids. The methods employed by the host of the Shiny Wo-Chien Raid that permitted this capture remain unclear.
The situation has also drawn notice from well-known Nintendo content creator Austin John Plays, who has advised against capturing Shiny Wo-Chien from potentially hacked Tera Raids, warning that The Pokemon Company may delete the save data of any user found to be violating its terms of service. During his commentary, Austin highlighted that the alleged hacker leading the Tera Raid would have an egg icon next to their name instead of a Pokemon, encouraging trainers to avoid suspicious raids.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players can utilize strong Fire-type Pokemon such as Iron Moth or Incineroar to counter Shiny Wo-Chien and contribute to the collective objective of achieving one million victories. It remains uncertain how The Pokemon Company will respond to this issue.
