Dune: Awakening Disables Steam Family Sharing

Dune: Awakening has announced a temporary halt to Steam Family Sharing for all players in an effort to address cheating in the game. This tough decision made by the developers is part of their ongoing response to the cheating issues that have affected the gameplay experience.

Funcom, the game’s publisher, launched Dune: Awakening on June 10, 2025, taking players on an adventure on Arrakis, the infamous desert planet. Players can create custom characters, encounter story elements from the Dune universe, and face the challenges of survival.

In their announcement, Funcom apologized to legitimate players of Steam Family Sharing. While details on how the feature was abused were not disclosed, there are suspicions that alternate accounts were used to unfairly gain access to in-game resources.

Ongoing Combat Against Cheating

The developers are actively engaged in a battle against toxicity in player behavior. Reports indicate that they have banned numerous players who exploited the system and removed significant quantities of exploited resources from the game. Continuous monitoring and updates are expected to further combat cheating incidents.

The decision to temporarily disable Steam Family Sharing reflects Funcom’s dedication to restoring fair play in Dune: Awakening, making sure that all players can enjoy an engaging experience without interference from cheats.
