Players can’t ignore the presence of the notorious pink checkerboards or the giant ERROR models when joining community maps that require specific game content.
However, this will change with the latest update of Garry’s Mod, which now includes most of the content from Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life 2 Episodic by default, thanks to Valve’s permission. Users will no longer need to purchase or install these games to participate in community maps reliant on these assets.
Rubat, a programmer for Facepunch Studios, mentioned in a post on the official site:
“This will address a majority of instances of missing content (missing textures and ERROR models), but it will not eliminate all occurrences.”
Still, players might encounter some of the infamous textures if they venture into certain maps, as the original game files themselves are not included. This update primarily aims to enhance the experience of users who may not have ownership of these classic titles.
