June's sales figures reveal that Deltarune outperformed Mario Kart World on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop, following the release of its chapters on the console's launch day.
The Nintendo Switch 2 eShop has reported its first full month of revenue, revealing that the indie title Deltarune has outshone Mario Kart World in digital sales for June 2025. This notable success coincides with the planned release of chapters 3 and 4 of Deltarune on the day of the console’s launch, which played a significant role in driving early purchases.
Deltarune is an episodic RPG crafted by Toby Fox, renowned for the acclaimed game Undertale. Its first chapter debuted in 2018, followed by a second in 2021, captivating fans who eagerly anticipate the next installment. after announcing updates for the game in April, Fox also disclosed an exclusive feature for Deltarune on Nintendo Switch 2. The June sales figures showcase the success of strategic release timing for the indie developer.
According to Newzoo’s analysis, Deltarune topped the digital sales charts on the Nintendo Switch 2 for June. Following it were titles like Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour and Mario Kart World, with Minecraft and No Man’s Sky rounding off the top five. The success emphasizes the potential for indie games on Nintendo’s platform.
However, it’s important to note that these figures don’t account for physical sales, where Mario Kart World still reigns supreme. Previous reports indicated that Mario Kart has exceeded one million copies sold in Japan alone. Still, Deltarune holds an advantage as it’s only available digitally on the Switch.
In addition to Deltarune, other third-party titles like No Man’s Sky, Fantasy Life, and Cyberpunk 2077 also made significant contributions to digital revenue, indicating a promising shift in sales dynamics on the Nintendo consoles.
