Supermassive Games to Cut 36 Jobs as Directive 8020's Release Delayed to 2026
Supermassive Games announces layoffs amid a restructuring process, delaying their upcoming title Directive 8020.
Supermassive Games, known for titles like Until Dawn and Little Nightmares, will reduce its workforce by 36 employees just before the scheduled launch of their new title, Directive 8020, which has now been postponed to 2026. The developer cites a challenging gaming environment, stating, “The games industry remains a challenging and ever-evolving environment. As we adapt our team structure to better align with these changes, we’ve had to make the very difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process where we anticipate losing up to 36 of our colleagues.”
The developer previously experienced layoffs in February 2024, which coincided with the founders stepping down after 16 years. With the language used for these announcements reflecting ongoing struggles within the industry, concerns about job security continue to rise among gaming professionals.
