A reliable insider has seemingly leaked details about the plot of Zach Cregger’s upcoming Resident Evil movie, which might provide clarity on the adaptation’s timeline within the game series. Resident Evil, or Biohazard in Japan, is a survival horror franchise created by Capcom, encompassing over 30 titles, including the forthcoming Resident Evil Requiem.
Focusing on the Umbrella Corporation and its manipulations of mutagenic viruses for weapons research, the storyline frequently sees the Special Tactics and Rescue Service confronting zombies and horrific entities spawned from Umbrella’s actions. With the new film project on the horizon, fans are compiling wishlists for Resident Evil heroes they wish to see, including beloved characters such as Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, and Leon S. Kennedy.
Thanks to a new report from movie insider Daniel Richtman on Patreon (Thanks Comicbook), we learn that the movie will center on a courier named Brian, who must deliver a package to Raccoon City General Hospital. During his journey, he encounters a mysterious woman, which leads to a full-blown outbreak involving tentacle mutations and bio-engineered creatures. This outbreak, affecting Raccoon City, places the narrative concurrently with the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, where a major outbreak leads to a soldier intervention.
Cregger has indicated that his Resident Evil film will diverge from the original game lore in order to create a more authentic movie experience. This approach has sparked mixed reactions among fans, but perhaps this creative direction will set his version apart from the previous adaptations.
The film features Austin Abrams as Bryan, a laid-back organ courier who faces a chaotic night of delivery amidst a terrifying epidemic involving grotesque mutations. Previous Resident Evil cinematic efforts were led by Paul W.S. Anderson, beginning with a self-titled film in 2002, which resulted in five sequels. The new movie is set for release on September 18, 2026.
