Bungie Addresses Claims of Hidden Nerfs in Destiny 2's Edge of Fate Expansion

Bungie responds to player concerns regarding unexpected balance changes in Destiny 2's newest expansion.

Bungie has officially denied allegations that they introduced “stealth nerfs” in their latest Destiny 2 expansion, The Edge of Fate, launched on July 19, 2025. This expansion is noted for its significant changes to the gameplay. Players have reported undocumented balance changes, leading to community speculation regarding hidden nerfs affecting beloved abilities and items, including the Warlock Touch of Flame and Speaker’s Sight Exotic.

In a Reddit statement, Dylan “dmg04” Gafner clarified that the company did not intend to make these changes secretive. He acknowledged the oversight in documenting the updates within the extensive patch notes provided for this expansion and assured the community that Bungie is committed to transparency moving forward. Gafner emphasized that Bungie’s policy does not allow for unannounced major changes, describing such practice as illogical in an environment where players are vigilant about alterations. Many players expressed understanding of this clerical error, although some were concerned about the absence of a timeline for when the updated information would be shared, fearing it could impact their gameplay experience.

Additional Context

The Edge of Fate introduces a new narrative thread for Destiny 2, marking the beginning of The Fate Saga. This expansion includes fresh characters, revamped user interface elements, and changes in game mechanics that shift how players loot and improve their gear. The extensive patch notes, which Gafner called one of the most detailed ever, cover numerous gameplay adjustments and economic changes regarding Bright Dust rewards.
