Ubisoft has confirmed that a new Ghost Recon game is in the pipeline, making it the first release since Ghost Recon: Breakpoint launched in 2019.
During the recent annual general meeting, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot responded to inquiries regarding the company’s experience with live service titles by highlighting the success of Rainbow Six: Siege. He elaborated on Ubisoft’s goal to bolster their live game segment:
“In addition to the flagship game that I just mentioned, our objective is to also make strong progress in the growing market… by continuing to enhance our current experiences and capitalizing on upcoming launches, such as The Division and Ghost Recon.”
Further insight came from CFO Frederick Duguet, who mentioned that the recent investment from Tencent would fund the development of existing major franchises including Ghost Recon, suggesting a transition to a live service format for future titles. They indicated a potential return to first-person shooter mechanics, departing from the series’ previous third-person perspective.
Historically, Ghost Recon has attempted to embrace live service mechanics. The prior game, Breakpoint, experienced a troubled launch, leading to numerous updates aimed at rectifying its initial flaws. Ubisoft seemingly plans to learn from past experiences as they advance with this new installment.
