Pokémon GO will unveil Gigantamax Butterfree as part of an upcoming Max Battle Day. The event is scheduled for August 3, 2025. Players will have the opportunity to catch this powerful Pokémon and will be aided by various limited-time bonuses.
Max Battles were introduced to Pokémon GO in autumn 2024, allowing users to collect Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokémon. Presently, around 70 Pokémon are capable of Dynamax transformations, while only a select few can access Gigantamax forms—transformations that significantly change their appearance beyond merely increasing size and power.
During the event, every Power Spot will host Max Battles with a quicker refresh rate, giving players better odds to encounter Gigantamax Butterfree. However, capturing this unique Pokémon will be a challenge, as it will appear in a six-star Max Battle. Therefore, players might want to prepare their strongest Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon, such as Rock, Flying, Fire, Electric, or Ice-types for an effective strategy against this Bug/Flying-type Pokémon.

In line with typical Max Battle Days, various bonuses will enhance player participation. Players can carry up to 1,600 Max Particles, with Power Spots significantly increasing the dispersal quantity during event hours, offering eight times the normal amount. Starting 14 hours prior, players will build up double Max Particles by exploring, which will require only 25% of the usual distance. Furthermore, remote raid pass limits will be expanded, enabling players to possess up to 20 passes starting at 5 p.m. on August 2.
Anticipation grows as players can also catch a Dynamax Darumaka through timed research tasks beginning July 28. Both Butterfree and Darumaka will have a chance to appear in their shiny forms, appealing to shiny hunters eager for rare finds. Those committing with a $4.99 event ticket will benefit from further Max Particle collection limits and extra experience during the three-hour window.
