Hope for New Infamous Games: Sucker Punch Director Teases Future Possibilities
Sucker Punch Productions' Nate Fox indicates a potential return to the Infamous series, suggesting re-releases may come first as the studio wraps up their current project, Ghost of Yotei.
Sucker Punch Productions Creative Director Nate Fox envisions a revival for the Infamous series. While he remains non-committal regarding specific plans, he hinted that if Sucker Punch were to revisit the Infamous franchise, re-releases are likely to take precedence over new titles, at least initially.
Launched in 2009, the Infamous franchise presented a unique take on the superhero genre, featuring expansive open-world gameplay fused with action-packed combat, selective destruction of environments, and moral dilemmas. In addition to three main titles, the Bellevue-based developer produced two standalone expansions for Infamous 2 and Infamous Second Son, entitled Festival of Blood and First Light. The last piece of Infamous content was released in August 2014. VGChartz reports that Second Son and the original Infamous sold approximately 7.3 million copies collectively, with total franchise sales potentially exceeding 10 million units.
“I would love to work on more Infamous. I would love to see a trilogy re-release, but Sucker Punch is a one-game-at-a-time shop, and right now, we are very focused on finishing Ghost of Yotei,” said Fox.
Mention of revisiting the Infamous series remains speculative. Currently, Sucker Punch’s priority is on launching Ghost of Yotei, set to arrive on October 2, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
