Taiwan's Semiconductor Industry Faces Increased Threat from Chinese Hackers

The Taiwanese chip sector is under intensified scrutiny from state-sponsored Chinese hackers seeking trade secrets, according to recent cybersecurity reports.

The international digital battlefield is consistently evolving, and the latest reports indicate that Chinese state-sponsored hackers are setting their sights on Taiwan’s semiconductor industry. This rise in cyber-attacks is alarming, as these hackers aim to obtain sensitive trade secrets.

In a recent study by cybersecurity firm Proofpoint, it was revealed that targeting of Taiwanese semiconductor organizations has reached unprecedented levels in recent months. Since March 2025, multiple campaigns have been identified, specifically aimed at companies within this critical sector:

“This activity likely reflects China’s strategic priority to achieve semiconductor self-sufficiency and decrease reliance on international supply chains and technologies, particularly in light of US and Taiwanese export controls.”
