The director of Multiversus, Tony Huynh, recently issued an apology to the gaming community concerning the backlash following the game’s impending shutdown announcement. Huynh expressed his regrets on social media and urged players to refrain from making threats against the development team, explaining that Player First Games is facing a challenging period due to this decision.
The free-to-play fighting game had a robust start upon its initial early access release but subsequently suffered a sharp decline, leading to a staggering loss of over $100 million for Warner Bros. by late 2024. Huynh acknowledged the community’s frustration regarding the shutdown, clarifying that this outcome is not indicative of a lack of effort from the team.
In response to the announcement, many fans voiced their anger, particularly regarding the Founder’s Pack and its in-game currency, which will not be usable after the shutdown. Although Huynh did not specifically address this concern, he indicated that the team strives to be receptive to player feedback.
Huynh also took a moment to thank the community for its support and reiterated that Multiversus Season 5 would be the last, emphasizing that considerable effort has been put into it and hoping players might find enjoyment in the concluding season. He closed his heartfelt message by acknowledging the uncertainty surrounding the future for the team.
