Microsoft's Laid-Off King Developers Replaced by AI They Built

Laid-off staff at King reportedly being replaced by the AI tools they developed.

In a move that many are calling dystopian, sources indicate that laid-off developers from gaming company King, owned by Microsoft, are being replaced by the AI they helped create. This follows a significant wave of layoffs where around 200 employees faced job cuts, representing about 10% of King’s workforce. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, reassured remaining employees about the company’s growth, stating, “We have more players, games, and gaming hours than ever before, and our platform, hardware, and game roadmap have never looked stronger.” However, the morale among the remaining staff has reportedly plummeted, with many describing the situation as grim and self-serving amid claims that the company is prioritizing profits over its workforce’s well-being. The layoffs seem to target developers and creative teams directly involved in the very tools that are now meant to replace them.
