Oblivion Remastered Update Addresses Dark Brotherhood Door Flaw

The latest patch for Oblivion Remastered corrects a significant lore inconsistency concerning the Dark Brotherhood's door.

This article contains spoilers about the lore of the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion Remastered.

The recent update 1.2 for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has resolved an issue with the Dark Brotherhood’s lore-incorrect door. After the release of Oblivion Remastered earlier this year, players enjoyed the improved graphics, yet some long-time fans were disappointed with the appearance of the revamped Dark Brotherhood entrance, which lacked its iconic attributes and contained inaccuracies regarding the lore.

Before this update, critics highlighted that the Dark Brotherhood’s door failed to convey the necessary ambiance, notably missing the distinctive blood-red glow and displaying an incorrect number of children slain by the Night Mother. Fans pointed out that the lore stated she had five children, contradicting the door’s previous design that featured seven.

Last week, Bethesda and Virtuos released update 1.2 for Oblivion Remastered on Steam, making numerous enhancements including performance improvements across various areas, optimization in rendering techniques for water and character animations, and significant correction to the doorway.

In the improved version, the Dark Brotherhood door now embraces its original haunting luminescence, and the count of children has been effectively adjusted to five, aligning with established lore. Players noted this change brings back the significance and style reflective of the original content, and enhances the immersion of the game.

Following this engagement, Bethesda has also showcased physical editions of Oblivion Remastered for PlayStation 5 set to launch in October 2025, with options for regular and deluxe versions. The community remains curious if these physical editions will contain the entirety of the game on disk, or if players will still need to download extra content, a common trend in modern video game releases.
