Critical BIOS Update Needed for Older Intel CPUs with Gigabyte Motherboards
Update your BIOS if using Intel's 8–11th Gen CPUs with Gigabyte motherboards to address serious vulnerabilities.
If you’re using an older Gigabyte motherboard with an Intel CPU—up to and including a Z590/B560 chipset—you should probably update your BIOS. Some vulnerabilities have been found that could allow serious memory corruption.
In an official security update, Gigabyte explained they have identified multiple memory corruption vulnerabilities in the System Management Mode (SMM) modules of several older consumer motherboards.
While the newer hardware is reportedly unaffected, it’s important for users of Z590 and B560 boards, which are compatible with Intel 10th and 11th Gen CPUs, to apply these updates.
The following summarizes the affected chipsets along with their BIOS release timelines:
Chipset | BIOS Release Schedule |
---|---|
Intel H110 | Jun. 2025 |
Intel Z170, H170, B150, Q170 | EOL, Contact for support |
Intel Z270, H270, B250, Q270 | EOL, Contact for support |
Intel Z370, B365 | EOL, Contact for support |
Intel Z390, H310, B360, Q370, C246 | Jun. 2025 |
Intel Z490, H470, H410, W480 | Jun. 2025 |
Intel Z590, B560, H510, Q570 | Jun. 2025 |
For anyone utilizing an older Intel chip alongside a Gigabyte motherboard, it’s crucial to apply these updates promptly, especially as outdated systems can lead to significant security risks.
