The creator of Phasmophobia hints at a major update, dubbed Horror 2.0, which is set to be released in 2026. Half a decade after its early access debut, Phasmophobia remains a leading multiplayer horror experience, garnering thousands of players daily on PC and console.
Developed initially by a solo creator, Phasmophobia rose to fame amid the COVID-19 pandemic, quickly becoming a favorite among streamers, and winning the Best Debut Game award at The Game Awards in 2020. The game has sold over 22 million copies, and the upcoming Version 1.0 launch is anticipated to bring major changes.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Knight detailed that the update would so significantly change the gameplay that players may feel they are enjoying an entirely new game. Although specifics remain scarce, he mentioned that the game’s audio would be overhauled among several other critical updates, with fewer patch notes being released prior to the update.
While the Horror 2.0 update is set for 2026, more updates are planned for 2025, featuring seasonal events and map enhancements.
