Bungie Aims to Enhance Accessibility for New Players in Destiny 2
Bungie's Assistant Game Director discusses strategies to improve the new player experience in Destiny 2, highlighting the need for a more user-friendly approach.
Bungie’s Assistant Game Director, Robbie Stevens, has stated that the company is looking to simplify the entry process for new players in Destiny 2. Balancing the needs of newcomers while keeping the existing players engaged is a key focus.
This action comes after the game’s launch in 2017, during which it notably encountered issues maintaining a steady player base. Many players have found that some in-game mechanics, like the build-crafting system, can be challenging to navigate.
To facilitate a smoother onboarding experience, Bungie plans to refine game instructions and reduce complexity surrounding basic mechanics, allowing players to explore deeper systems gradually. For instance, they have already made strides with Explorer Mode, aimed at teaching the mechanics of dungeons. This initiative has reportedly helped more players engage with these challenging areas.
Stevens emphasized that Bungie is committed to making Destiny 2 more accessible. The developing team is also gearing up for significant changes in the upcoming Edge of Fate expansion, which will overhaul melee damage and armor systems to enhance gameplay.
