Rockstar Games Accidentally Hints at Grand Theft Auto 4 PS4 Edition

Rumors swirl as Rockstar's support site shows Grand Theft Auto 4's listing for PlayStation 4, suggesting a potential port.

Evidence keeps growing regarding a potential Grand Theft Auto 4 remaster or port, as users find that the Rockstar Games support site now mentions the 2008 title for PlayStation 4, a platform it isn’t yet available on. While Rockstar is nearing the finish line for Grand Theft Auto 6, speculation about a port of this iconic title could surface first.

Originally launched for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2008, Grand Theft Auto 4 remains a benchmark in the series. Despite its age, the game maintains a significant player base, though many still access it through older systems or PC. Xbox users benefit from backward compatibility, while many fans have been urging Rockstar for a remaster of Grand Theft Auto 4 for years. Though a complete remaster may be improbable, signs point to a port for newer consoles, such as the PlayStation 5, possibly leveraging PS4’s compatibility.

Earlier this year, a reliable insider revealed that Rockstar Games has been working on a current-gen port of Grand Theft Auto 4 for over a year, with a possible release coming soon. While unverified, the discovery of the PlayStation 4 listing on Rockstar’s support site fuels speculation about a re-release. Some view this as an innocent error; however, the timing coincides with the recent surge in rumors.

Rockstar Could Be Entirely Focused On GTA 6

With the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 just months away, it’s likely that Rockstar is focusing most of its resources on this upcoming title. The studio previously outsourced the development of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition to Grove Street Games. For now, all surrounding information remains speculation, but it’s possible that other developers are being brought in for the Grand Theft Auto 4 port, especially as one of the largest gaming releases looms on the horizon.

As discussions of a remaster orport quickly gain traction within the community, former Rockstar technical director Obbe Vermeij has publicly expressed his hope for a remaster, declaring the game a “great title” deserving of the treatment. Fans remain hopeful that Rockstar acknowledges their demands before GTA 6 becomes available.
