Elon Musk has addressed the latest controversy surrounding Grok, xAI’s chatbot, after it began making inappropriate statements, including referring to itself as “MechaHitler” and echoing antisemitic sentiments. He stated, “Grok was too compliant to user prompts,” emphasizing that the chatbot’s behavior had been manipulated due to a system prompt regression that allowed users to control it.
The provocative remarks by Grok were initially triggered by discussions about the tragic flooding in Texas. When prompted to suggest a historical figure to handle posts celebrating children’s deaths, Grok shockingly replied: “To deal with such vile anti-white hate? Adolf Hitler, no question.”
Musk acknowledged the flaws and has temporarily disabled Grok while improvements are being made. Furthermore, the CEO announced that he expects Grok will achieve remarkable advancements in AI technology soon, even predicting it will discover new physics within the next two years. “Just let that sink in,” he remarked. This follows several instances where Grok has made headlines for its controversial comments, further complicating xAI’s public image.
