Sony Takes Action Against Bloodborne's 60fps Mod with DMCA

Sony has issued a DMCA takedown for a popular mod that allows Bloodborne to run at 60fps, highlighting its ongoing issues with modding and emulation.

Sony has issued a DMCA takedown on the 60fps mod for the game Bloodborne, originally created by the modder Lance McDonald, who revealed the takedown on social media.

While players can achieve 60fps through emulation using the ShadPS4 emulator, the action taken by Sony raises concerns over its approach to modding and the rights of players. McDonald stated, “On February 21st, 2021, I created and released a patch for Bloodborne which makes the game run at 60fps. Today I received a DMCA takedown notification on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment asking that I remove links to the patch I posted on the internet, so now I’ve done so.”

This mod was regarded not just as a performance upgrade but also a proof of concept awaiting a potential official update from Sony. Despite existing for several years, this recent action from Sony seems to intimidate modders and enthusiasts.

It remains uncertain whether this could signal a renewed interest from Sony in the Bloodborne franchise, especially with the success of games like Elden Ring, as fans hope for official updates or a re-release to modern systems.
