Edward Snowden has expressed strong criticism towards Nvidia’s new RTX 5080 graphics card, labeling it a monopolistic crime against consumers for its pricing structure and specifications.
“F-tier value for S-tier prices,” he stated on Twitter.
Translation: “F-tier value for S-tier prices.”
Snowden elaborated that the RTX 5080, priced at $1,000 with only 16 GB of VRAM, is inadequate for its cost, emphasizing that previous models should have offered much greater memory capacities.
He contended that the graphics card market is suffering from a lack of competitive alternatives, which allows dominant players like Nvidia to set unfavorable pricing strategies, ultimately harming consumers. As he notes:
The RTX 5080 has been described by tech reviewers as “strangely unexciting.” There are concerns that with inadequate VRAM, as seen with previous models’ performance, gamers will face limitations in future applications and games.
The potential for enhanced competition, particularly from AMD and Intel, is being awaited by gamers hoping for better options in the hardware marketplace, as Nvidia’s board continues to minimize the quality-to-price ratio in their releases.
